The Tjibaou Cultural Center

The 10th ICSHMO conference will be held at the Tjibaou Cultural Centre, which is a partner institution. In addition to the scientific exchanges during the conference, participants will be able to overview some artistic productions illustrating the meaning of climate change on Pacific Island communities (exhibitions of sculptures, paintings, etc.).

The Tjibaou Cultural Centre was inaugurated in May 1998. As an instrument of the Agency for Development of the Kanak Culture (ADCK), the Centre is meant to enhance the Kanak identity and culture. It is also dedicated to promote artistic creation from New Caledonia, the South Pacific region and the world.

In its original configuration, which is found in one place an art center, museum, hall, performance space and a specialized library, the Tjibaou Cultural Center offers a multitude of cultural offerings.

Designed by Renzo Piano, the Tjibaou Cultural Center is set in natural surroundings on the Tina peninsular.

Bordered by the waters of the lagoon, it is close to Magenta domestic airport and the Tina Golf Course, with Noumea just a few minutes away.

In the Center, the Kanak culture finds its place in an expanding urban Noumea. Guided visits start from the Reception area, and the principal permanent exhibitions are housed in the different Melanesian “houses” within the Center.
